Can hypnotherapy help with anxiety?
Hypnotherapy is often used as a complementary treatment for anxiety, and it can be effective in reducing symptoms of anxiety in some individuals.
Hypnotherapy can help to reduce anxiety by addressing the underlying thoughts and beliefs that may contribute to anxiety and by teaching individuals new coping strategies to manage their anxiety.
During a hypnotherapy session, the therapist will guide the individual into a hypnotic state, which is a state of deep relaxation and heightened suggestibility. The therapist then uses suggestions to help the individual change negative thoughts and behaviours related to their anxiety.
For example, the therapist may suggest that the individual will feel calm and relaxed in situations that previously caused them anxiety. They may also suggest that the individual will be able to use deep breathing or other relaxation techniques to manage anxiety when it arises.
It's important to note that hypnotherapy is not a standalone treatment for anxiety and should be used in conjunction with other evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and medication. Also, as with any treatment, results may vary from person to person, and it is important to consult with a qualified, experienced professional with experience in hypnotherapy to determine if it's the right fit for you.
