HOW CAN COUNSELLING HELP WITH SEXUAL ISSUES?

Counselling helps individuals with sexual issues by providing a safe and non-judgmental space to explore and understand their concerns.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is one common approach used to address sexual issues in counselling. It helps individuals to identify and alter negative thought patterns and behaviours that could be contributing to their sexual concerns.

Sex therapy is a specific type of counselling which addresses sexual problems and concerns in a holistic manner. It involves working with a therapist trained to understand and help with sexual issues. Sex therapy helps individuals with a wide range of sexual concerns, including sexual dysfunction, lack of sexual desire, difficulty with sexual communication and trauma relating to sexual experiences.

In sex therapy, the client will work with their therapist to understand and address any underlying emotional and psychological factors that could be contributing to sexual concerns. Together they develop a plan to address the issue. This can include homework assignments or exercises and communication skill building.

In addition, couples counselling can be helpful for those experiencing sexual difficulties within their relationships. This can lead to an improvement in communication, intimacy and trust which, in turn, leads to an improvement in sexual function.

Overall, counselling provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals to explore and address their sexual issues thereby developing effective strategies to improve their sexual health and well-being.
