What qualifications should I look for in a hypnotherapist?

In the United Kingdom, there is currently no statutory regulation of hypnotherapy. However, there are several professional organisations that have their own standards and codes of conduct that hypnotherapists can choose to adhere to.

When looking for a hypnotherapist in the UK, it is recommended that you look for a practitioner who has training and qualifications from one of the following professional organisations:

  • The National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH): The NCH is the largest professional association for hypnotherapists in the UK, and it sets standards for hypnotherapy training and practice. Practitioners who are members of the NCH have met the organization's requirements for training and experience, and they are committed to following the NCH's code of ethics and standards of practice.

  • The General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR): The GHR is another leading professional organisation for hypnotherapists in the UK. Practitioners who are members of the GHR have met the organisation's requirements for training and experience, and they are committed to following the GHR's code of ethics and standards of practice.

  • The British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH): The BSCH is a professional organisation for hypnotherapists and doctors who use hypnosis as part of their medical practice. Practitioners who are members of the BSCH have met the organisation's requirements for training and experience and are committed to following the BSCH's code of ethics and standards of practice.

  • The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) : CNHC is a UK regulatory body for complementary therapies, Hypnotherapy practitioner register by CNHC and hold their accreditation.

What qualifications should I look for in a hypnotherapist?

It's important to keep in mind that while professional accreditation is important, it is not the only factor that should be considered when selecting a hypnotherapist. You should also look for a practitioner who has experience in treating the specific condition or issue you're dealing with and who has a positive reputation among their clients.

It's also important to ask about qualifications and professional memberships. If you don't find any of the above in the practitioner, it would be best to consider other options.
